Words Manny lived by.
His life spanned seven historic decades-- from the Great Depression through World War II, the Korean War and the Cold War. He witnessed the epic struggle for Civil Rights, the tumultuous years of the Vietnam War era and the evolution of a technology-driven world that is increasingly shrinking. One of Manny's greatest thrills at the end of his life was the election of Barack Obama and the promise that the world of his grandchildren would be a more hopeful one.
Manny's credo was one that reflected his own modest view of his place in the world and the universe. It was seen in two quotes he kept on his desk for decades:
"My grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who do the work and those who take the credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was less competition there."
Indira Gandhi
"It's amazing what you can accomplish when you don't care who gets the credit."
Quincy Jones
