Manny Murgola's life was a joyful blend of a passion for knowledge and discovery, devotion to family, friends and colleagues; and the appreciation for a good joke, a bad pun, fine food and spirits, great music and a last-second three-pointer on the basketball court. He was equally comfortable in a rumpled lab coat, sleek tuxedo or tropical guayabera shirt, awe-inspiringly accomplished as a scholar, researcher, teacher, musician, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and godfather.
Born on August 24, 1937 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Italian immigrant parents, Frances Bonvissuto and Joseph Murgola, Manny was raised with two sisters, Joan and Sandra, and graduated from Xavier High School in Manhattan in 1954.
